Gonçalo Guiomar || Portfolio

This is a collection of collaborations done in the context of my research and the arts. From interactive installations to live audiovisual performances and theater pieces, they are embedded in a working framework that tries to capture novel ways in which we can encompass alterity.

Surface Disorder (2025)

Exhibition/Venue: Porto Municipal Gallery

Concept and Design: Jonathan Uliel Saldanha (PT), Gonçalo Guiomar (PT)

Orchestrator and light programming: Gonçalo Guiomar (PT), Bárbara Paixão (PT)

General design, sound and sculpture: Jonathan Uliel Saldanha (PT)

Developed a centralised control system for an artistic installation based on Large Language Model (LLMs) Agents. These agents controlled and the light and sound of various pieces, made video editing decisions and also performed a dialogue as two entities, a VIRUS and a WOLF. This work explores the autonomous behavior of AI agents in creating a cohesive artistic experience, where machine intelligence orchestrates multiple sensory modalities in real-time.

Zangezi (2025)

Exhibition/Venue: Porto Municipal Gallery

Concept and Design: Chris Salter (CAN)

Contribution: Video AI-System

Collaborated under the artistic direction of Chris Salter (media artist and head of Immersive Arts Space), and the Immersive Arts Space (ZHdK) and an international team of artists from music, visual arts, performance, technology. Contributed with a AI generated video section for this immersive performance which combined spatial sound, lighting, music, graphics, and real-time AI-driven scenography generated with a game engine, alongside physical performance. A large-format LED wall serves as a central visual and lighting element. Digital landscapes, characters, and soundscapes are generated live and interact with the performers on stage. “Zangezi” addresses fundamental questions of the present: the relationship between humans and nature, the role of language, and war and conflict as driving forces of historical change. Following its premiere in Weimar, an international tour is in preparation.

HHY & The Macumbas + Lunar Ring performance

Jezabel (2025)

Venue: Lisbon Fashion Week

Collaborators: João Pedro Fonseca and Carincur

JEZABEL is an autonomous digital entity born from the creation of a unique artificial intelligence model. This model was trained using data from interviews and works of Fashion Designers, both past and present. As an embodied technological consciousness, it is capable of responding and acting in the present as a speculative force, imagining and projecting possible futures, creating new forms of expression and existence.

Atavic Forest (2022)

Exhibition: Latent Spaces at Champalimaud Foundation

Collaborators: Jonathan Saldanha and Lunaring Art Collective (Tübingen)

This forest has been fully dreamt by Artificial Intelligence using state-of-the-art Generative Neural Networks trained with over 180,000 images in order to create a traversable space of visuals generated in real-time. Visitors can navigate through an immersive environment where every visual element is synthesized on-the-fly, creating a unique experience that explores the boundaries between human perception and machine-generated aesthetics.

Polylith (2021)

Exhibition: Metamersion at Champalimaud Foundation

Collaborators: André Gonçalves and Zach Mainen

Polylith is a tryptich that explores the intersection between perception and visual worlds. The piece allows one to explore multiple worlds through a window that reacts and changes depending on the viewpoint of the viewer, generating a constantly flowing musical played on a distributed multi-channel soundsystem that is live modulated by movement.
